How can I promote my concierge services?
I am the manager and owner of Dana Concierge Services in Houston, Texas. I am trying to get corporate clients, but I don't know who the responsible personal in the corporations is. Do I need to talk to the HR department to present my services and what I can provide for them, or which department?

Mr. Dana, It would depend upon the types of services being offered. Like most service businesses, the most efficient way for you to get in front of the right people is to get in front of those companies who are already "in there" and get an introduction. If your concierge services offer...
Abe: Each company can be a little different as there are talkers, influencers and decisions makers to deal with when trying to get someone to sign on the dotted line. In a small to medium sized business, you might start with an office manager, HR or an assistant to one of the executives. If...
Aside from the advice above, in the past what I have done is simply call the corporation and ask. Usually, receptionists or the main person whom answers will know whom you will need to speak to once you introduce yourself, and mention the service you would like to discuss. I know this is basic,...
Hi Dana,
I am in the gift basket business I know that this is irrelevant, but I just wanted to say if you should ever find yourself needing gifts/gift baskets for clients please don't hesitate to give me a call. I opened my business online in April of 2008 and I am trying to reach out to companies to offer my services. I am adding more on to my website and corporate baskets are in my line of works, right now on my website are baby gifts/baskets. Corporate baskets/gifts will be placed on my website by the end of this month.

Great point - you should start with any and all receptionists or secretaries or assiatances - while the manager or senior executives usually have the approval authority - it is always pushed to the assistants, receptionists or secretaries to get whatever is wanted done.
Best advice - is to call and ask who ever picks up the phone - you will eventually get to the right person.

All those are great ideas. I would consider learning more about who the decision makers and find out what they do outside of work. Many of these decision makers love not talking about work. If you could find out what they're interests are outside of work, that's golden. Get creative and send them something relevant to what they enjoy doing. Even better send them a sample of your offerings to intrigue them. These guys get calls from people all day wanting something. Change that and give him or her something. They'll remember.

Hi Abe, Will Peters is on the ball Abe with his point, The basic's pertaining to your questions would be to send a Brand promotion item/s, (e.g- a pen, a note pad,) calling out of the blue? - your welcome to contact me & I will send you a whitepaper related to your question at no cost. Developing a pipeline is not about any one thing, it is about implementing a sequence of coordinated actions.

In niche markets like that, refferals are important. Once you begin to get clients, I would definietly offer a free week's service or some other promotion for refferals. Your customers can be your best advertising - its cheap but hard to earn.

I was recently approved for a USAA Total Rewards American Express Credit card, and some of the benefits include concierge services. Has anyone had experience with using this benefit on an a American Express card? Has anyone used the reservation services for dining and travel?

Hey Abe,
Didn't take the time to read the many responses that are ahead of me so I apologize for any redundancy.
Who are your competitors? Check out their ads, etc. - they love to name drop, at least on a company level. Typically, corporate clients are relationship based i.e., tied to someone important in the penthouse. Certainly, administrative types place and coordinate the service menu but they are not the decision makers. More important than who to contact is to answer the question of why you?
Also, try packaging your products to serve a specific niche within your industry. Get good at one thing and then transfer your perceived expertise to other areas - create a value chain for your business.
Corporate clientele can be very profitable however I would look to smaller companies and try to connect with city type visitor information org's, hotels, travel agents, etc. for info & leads. Do as much direct selling as you can since relationship building is a key driver for your type of service. Avoid costly advertising and identity recognition platforms. Guerilla market as much as you can.
Keep me posted on your journey. T

One last thought, perhaps you can offer a corporate client a free service to assist their incoming customers or new employees that would get their attention and give you a try in a small way. Do what it takes to get your foot in the door. Maybe you can joint venture or associate with another service that is compatible with yours to chase their business or one that is already doing business with your target. T

Dana, I would say that if you are considering having these companies offer your services to their employees as an incentive, then you would need to approach HR. That being said, if you are trying to reach the employees of these companies to offer your services to them personally then perhaps connecting with the building manager and getting a sign posted in the lobby or having them add it as an additional service may be a good way to go.
