How do you get people to talk about your "stuff"?

Have you ever read Mark Hughes book Buzzmarketing: Get People to Talk About Your Stuff? The author lays out his principles of buzz marketing, offering a list of dos and don'ts, plus numerous examples of businesses that outshined competitors by creating buzz. He advocates getting the attention of people who can spread the information about your product.

Have you ever started a buzz about your product or service? How did you do it? Did it have results?

My best to all,

I started a buzz about water at City Hall in Oakland. I am introducing a new water processing project in the SF bay area by personally introducing myself to policy-makers and relevant type decision makers. I had positive results and encouragement, But the lasting question was where was I going to get the money?

I started a buzz by asking everyone I come into contact with a "Who Do You Know" question. Who do you know who has been laid off, is in debt, is struggling to pay their bills, or whose sales are down? My specialty is helping people create a supplemental income stream, so I need to find the people who are looking for me!

You never know what people will connect to and get a buzz going about. And even if you do it once, I am not sure that it is easy to repeat. I think there are way too many variables.

All the things I think that are most useful in my status updates or blog posts seldom get any response or feedback. But if I write something random like I am standing on the porch in the rain in my fuzzy bunny bedroom slippers then a gazillion people will usually respond. Oh the irony.

So I try to plant seeds wherever I go and keep my garden watered and tended. Wherever I go I try to share a little laughter, share a little love, share a little compassion and hope lots of good things will bloom in the season that follows.
