How should I educate my target market about Virtual Offices?
Hello Entrepreneur.com Members!
I just became a member and felt that there was no better way to get advice then directly from my target market. Just to give you a bit of background, I recently started as an online marketing promoter for a company called Global Business Centers. They offer virtual offices for entrepreneurs and small businesses and they had a very minimal web presence before I started. The problem is, I have recently found that the majority of people starting a new business have no idea about what a virtual office is, but they would be the people who would best benefit from the services. How would you recommend getting the word out about what a virtual office is? I have built a more dynamic website for Global Business Centers in hopes that they can turn the site from a static sales tool, to more of a dynamic informational resource for entrepreneurs (don’t worry entrepreneur.com I am not trying to compete with you!). Honestly I would just love to get any feedback about what you guys think would be a good way to promote knowledge of what virtual offices are without trying to push the service onto our customers. Please feel free to visit the website at www.gbcone.com and send me your comments. I would appreciate any feedback (negative or positive) and tell me what you would like to see on the site if you were an entrepreneur interested in a virtual office. I appreciate the help and I look forward to many engaging posts in the future. Any feedback on the site can be emailed directly to me at craig@gbcone.com so we don’t spam the forums. Thanks again, Craig

I would suggest surveying the 'target group' about HOW they feel about Virtual Office Services and wheather they have or would use one. That way you would find out from your tarrget market who is interested and you could contact them and request a meeting to introduce your services to them for consideration. Give them something for their time participating in your survey: a discount, a subscription, cash award. I'm sure there are other ways as well that would serve your purpose.
First of all I love what you wrote and this article alone truly shows the power of online marketing. In the end it is all a matter of getting your company’s product or service exposed to the potential traffic that could possibly benefit from your existence.
In this particular case, I just so happened was contacting businesses that provided virtual office space just the other day. I was already aware of the availability of the service, but just recently decided to explore the possibility of using virtual space instead of a permanent office due to the extensive travel I will be undertaking for the rest of the year. The virtual office could allow me to have a stable business address and a convenient place to work when in town at a fraction of the cost of a fully leased office space. I operate a business incubator and another reason for exploring the use of office space was two fold. The first was for my usage, the second was to possibly partner up with a company were I could direct my clients who are 90% start up operations. They-like I am sure you are quickly finding out-are totally unaware of the existence of virtual office space. I actually come across this problem myself since most of my clients were not aware of business incubators. I found out that I had to use a combination of street marketing with internet marketing. Internet savvy prospects are so saturated with money making adds that it is easy to get lost in the shuffle when you are offering something that they could actually use. A good start is the local chamber of commerce. Networking wiht the business operators in the various areas you serve could be priceless. Next is acquiring a list of entrepreneurs that recently applied for a DBA is always a good prospect list for the product you are offering. I did take time to look at your webpage on www.gbcone.com and I really liked the way it is set up. From a personal standpoint when I recently contacted several companies that offered virtual office space and was put off by the vague information provided. Your site shows the packages and what is included right on the front page. This is so convenient to the average busy business owner like myself who doesn’t have time to maneuver though the onslaught of self glorifying pages. Like most entrepreneurs, time for me is not a commodity great in supply, I need quick answers that fit my needs... period. So you are on the right track. The business based social networks will serve you well getting your company’s identity out there. Like I mentioned before, I think it will take a combination of street marketing-face to face networking-combined with your current network marketing and the results will create a faster positive response. I hope this helps and good luck in all your endeavors. A few things, definitely agreed that you should survey entrepreneurs and see what their familiarity is with virtual offices.
Additionally, I would recommend you reach out to places in your local community that service small business start ups, like SCORE or Small Business Development Centers. Then look at models like Affinity Lab in DC. They have been here for 9 years and they have created sort of a fun culture and they are out at local events doing entertaining group think type presentations and outreach which further shows the benefit. And last, but not least, definitely do not discount the power of traditional media. Reach out to newspapers, magazines and radios and start using those resources to get the word out and build awareness for those that have not yet embraced the virtual and online world (not surprisingly, a lot of small business owners may use the internet as a resource but they are looking for something specific). So they still need to spend a lot of time face to face trying to make things happen and get things done. Get yourself out there in 'those' places!
