Social Media Success
When I'm asked by a client, "How do I get started in Social Media, and how can I be sure it's not a waste of time?" I inform them it’s going to take a concentrated focus, or as I fondly describe as [e-IDEA], the acronym for my five step process to social media success.
1. Exploring different aspects of Social Media, including Social Networking and key Web 2.0 technology that creates excitement and brand awareness within your industry segment. 2. Identifying primary and secondary targets – Who will be targeted to visit locations? How deep do the target groups go and are there collateral groups that can be tapped? 3. Developing a Strategy and Plan of Action – Customized to specific targets in accordance with company goals and objectives? 4. Executing the Plan – Putting the plan in motion including monitoring, managing the process including new content and updates. Keep it fresh! 5. Analyzing & Quantifying the Results – Is it working? Do you continue straight ahead or repeat the process from the beginning? What are actual results in sales and system revenue? This is the Social Media P&L!

I would like to promote my site using social media. I registered on twitter, facebook, and some others but I don't have much response yet. I have so much to learn....
You make some excellent points. Too often companies just jump in with now plan and waste a lot of time. Then they wonder why it didn't work.
I am always pushing social networks. This is a very small world and if you meet the right people - they know people - who know more people. Facebook and Myspace have been a great way for my Music company to keep promotions up with NO COSTS at all. I was considering doing a Facebook Ad Campaign, but really not sure how the response would be being a small regionalized Retail chain with just two stores right now. So far my friends have become fans - their friends have become fans...300+ fans that forward my blogs and "notes" on to others. Potential is definitely there.
My Myspace page is now upto 2000 friends encounting. Ive utilized ways to give out coupons and such to my customers as well as give them blog updates, comments, etc. for constant feedback. You make great points here - it has to be focused. One thing I would add is that with these social networks you can track where the readers and people are responding. If you sell online - put a code for facebook, myspace, etc for the customers to use and you know where they are coming from. If you interact - keep track! Write down their name - continue to make "friends" with potential clients - relationship selling is best! The old saying goes - "People will buy from their friends..."
